Biography
Susanna Kaysen is an American writer, achievements as a novelist and memoir writer. Most of her works have a strong autobiographical elements, and conveys her own experiences into her stories. She is most well known for her story Girl, Interrupted, an autobiography of her psychological problems.
Born November 11,1848 (currently 66 years old), in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She is the Daughter of Carl Kaysen,economist who studied at Harvard, and Columbia, and was a professor at MIT, Princeton, and Harvard, and an adviser to President JFK. Susanna Kaysen grew up in Cambridge, MA where she attended the common wealth and Cambridge schools, an extremely prestigious private high school. Although she grew up in a privileged surrounding, it did not bring her happiness and she suffered from acute depressions and had many incidents of suicide. Some psychologists diagnosed her with personality disorder.
When Susanna Kaysen was 18 she was confined to the McLean Psychiatric Hospital in Cambridge because of her suicide attempts. This was her low and defining period in her life. At the age of 21 she was let back into the world and for many years she looked for a job and eventually started working as a editor for publishers, and making her living. With her family connections and her personal experiences she became a successful writer.
